College Archives Photograph Collection

The Lafayette Special Collections & College Archives holds an extensive collection of photographs documenting the history of Lafayette College. The collection contains approximately 60,000 photographs from 1858 to the present, and serves as a visual record of the individuals associated with the college, campus events, and the physical development of the buildings and grounds. From this collection, more than 1,100 images were selected and digitized in 2006, with support from the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission.

Accessing the Collection

There are two ways to access digital images in the College Archives Photograph Collection. The browse interface allows one to select images and create temporary personal collections. These collections, known as "my favorites," can be used to create slideshows, save images to web pages for use with Blackboard, or just to compare images side-by-side. The browse interface includes a search box that allows users to locate images by keyword. For more precise control, the advanced search feature provides a way to search all fields or selected fields, search by proximity, or limit by collection.
